BBBEE through the Faircity Staff Empowerment Trust
All employees within the Faircity Group have the option to participate in the Faircity Staff Empowerment Trust (FCSET) as beneficiaries.  The FCSET will own 14% shareholding in all hotel operating entities and Faircity Hotels will own the balance. One of the mandates of the FCSET is to create an educational fund to which employees and their immediate families can apply for bursaries. 20% of the FCSET’s income will be reserved for the educational fund. A level 2 BEE accreditation has been achieved at after the implementation of the FCSET.

‘e-donate’ on our website
Faircity is currently designing a service within the booking engine of our website which will enable guests, who book any of our rooms via the website, to donate funds to certain charities or causes. This gives the general public the opportunity to donate money towards charitable causes to which they may not have had access to. This will be implemented by June 2010.

‘Adopt a charity’
Each hotel property within the Faircity group will ‘adopt a charity’ in the direct vicinity of the hotel. The hotel will support the charity through different initiatives i.e.:

      • Discarded hotel supplies (soaps, toilet paper, linen, etc).
      • Activities (Every month a birthday party is arranged at the hotel or at the charity for the members of the charity whose birthday it was during the month.)
      • Resources (Once or twice a month we send our maintenance team to the charity’s premises to assist with general maintenance issues, for example lights, plumbing, painting, etc.)

It is difficult to calculate the value of the above, since it combines time, direct costs and resources.

Employment Equity
We target to employ between 75% and 90% of our labour force from previous disadvantaged communities. All attempts will be made to employ individuals from local communities.

The Faircity Training Academy

One of the major constraints the hospitality industry experience is the shortage of skilled labour. Since the hospitality industry tends to employ large numbers of staff, training becomes very important. We are planning on opening the Faircity Training Academy when we reach 1500 rooms to ensure focussed training in the correct areas. Therefore we do not only train sufficient resources for our internal requirement but also equip individuals to be successful in the larger hospitality industry
